Bukit Emas Kopi Tiam, Jln Permatang Pauh, Butterworth, Richard Western Food, & Good CKT

Richard Western Food @ Bukit Emas Kopi Tiam
Bukit Emas Kopi Tiam a corner lot kopi tiam that operates for Breakfast and Lunch at the intersection of Jalan Permatang Pauh and Jalan Bagan 1 (Taman Bagan) which offers a good verity of Chinese Kopi Tiam food, such as Duck Leg Noodles, Char Koey Teow, Loh Mee etc, with a large seating area.

What surprising to me is that it also houses a Western Food Stall, which is unusual as most customers will not choose such items for lunch.  This told me that food serve here must be pretty good to attract lunch clientele.

Well I was right,  I had the Chicken Chop,  RM10/-,  it came will all the usual trimmings French fries, Mix vegetable.  Verdict :  Excellent,  We will be back for more,  we only wish they are open at night, as I am usually not in the area during lunch time.

Update :  Also tried the CKT here,  pretty good,  now have more choice.

Jamal Mohd Nasi Kandar, Butterworth

Jamal Mohd Nasi Kandar
There is this Road Side Nasi Kandar Stall, @ Jalan Telekom Butterworth, that open at 11pm and will have that has a que of around 50 person or more lining up on the road for their mid night meal, daily.
I am curious, but definitely not interested enough to line up in the middle of the night, no matter how wonderful the food is.   Finally I found out that in the Morning, Afternoon, and Night they will operate from a shoplot not too far away,  Jamal Mohd Nasi Kandar, and only operate as a street stall late at night.

So I decided to give it a try at their shop which has a much lesser que especially during the day time,   Their shop is located at the intersection of Jalan Kampong Banggali and Jalan Telekom, The food is all laid out as a Street stall in a cart (same cart) outside their shop with seating inside and outside.

As the seating area was a bit warm, I decided to ta pau (takeaway) and also for a chance for the rice to soak up all the curry flavour (traditional way to enjoy nasi kandar), which also result in a not so nice picture you see here.

Verdict :  Not Bad, but would I line up for this in the middle of the Night?

Food Garden @ Prangin Mall, George Town

Food Garden @ Prangin Mall, George Town

Located at 1st floor,  Food Garden have evolve into a busy aircondition food court, serving a verity of local food hawkers style anchored by a children playground on one side.  It has certainly bring life into this area of Prangin Mall. as the location is convenient, food is familiar and price similar to other Mall food courts .

We stop by here for a rest stop, and for the kids to burn up some of their energy, and decided to have some snacks.  We had a few bites from Queen Dim Sum, passable, as well as from the noodles stall.

T
his noodles stall does a huge verity of local noodles,  what caught my eye was their Wan Tan,  they have 3 types,  Normal, with Prawn, and with Larger Prawns.

We had a bowl of Wan Tan soup and a order of Wan Tan Mee, Delicious and Tasty,  A good place for a pit stop, especially with children.

Sungai Bakap, Roast Duck Village

Roast Duck at Sungai Bakap

Would you want to travel 50km one way for Roast Duck?  Well there are some people do (all the way from the island), and would head for Sungai Bakap (Seberang Prai Selatan) a small laid back village, almost at the border of Penang & Perak fwhich lead to this town having a reputation for their delicious Roast Duck.

At this small village, there are 4 roast duck stalls within 100 meters from each other, all open for lunch.  One of personal Preference is @ Hwa Aik, which is beside Soon Lee which serve Famous Steam Vegetable Dumplings (again there are people that will travel 50km for this,  which will be another blog post)

The Duck rice here is serve “olden” style, rice in a bowl (to be eaten with chopsticks), with pickle chili in a small bottle, chopstick and spoons in its own holder all on the table for you to help yourself.

My usual order will include a combination of the Roast Duck, with the Crispy Roast Pork & the Stuffed Liver Sausage, No doubt the food here is good, there are those similar on the Island, but not in this particular combination.  Total RM11 with one Chinese Tea, Pricy one would say.

From what I was informed all this meat is roasted locally using Coconut Husk, Eco friendly practice to use local items?

Location Map Below, To Waze there key in Sri Ganesh Hindu Temple which is less then 10 meters away, behind the shop
