New Stalls at Old Market Food Court

Old Market Food Court @ Butterworth - The New Items

There a few new stalls at Old Market Food Court that opens at night.   There a Thai Food, A Satay, and a old stall have new items Herbal Soup, so to try it all out we did a little mix and match for Dinner this evening,

Satay -  We had the Chicken Option, RM0.80 per stick,  Nice and chunky,  Grilled Nicely

The Char Ho Fun Stall now has Herbal Soup,  a bit on the light side, but not bad.

The New Thai Food Stall,  Mainly they do one dish rice dish.  but we choose individual dish instead
A combination of White Tom Yam, Kangkong Belacan, and Fried Pork.

Not too bad.

Old Market Food Court is located at Jalan New Ferry, Butterworth, it was actual a wet Market which is now converted to be a 100% food court with its own parking.

Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court Chicken Rice

Tanjung Bungah Market Chicken Rice

Highlighting some of the Good Stalls at Tanjung Bungah Wet Market Food Court.

Hock Chicken Rice is one of the Better ones around actually, One that I will actually travel to, out of the way for a meal here. I have been eating this chicken rice (from its original shop) at the junction of Jln Tg Bungah / Jln Chee Seng, and then this seller branching off to a Kopi Tiam @ Jalan Concord and then to its current location at the Market.

What make it one of my favorites?  The Soup Serve is superb, the poach chicken is not dry, rice is full of natural flavors (not margarine)

Do note that there are 2 chicken rice stall,  Hock Chicken Rice is a Corner Unit at the Middle Section of the Food Court.  they also do not open early.

Drop by for an Early Lunch, as they may sell out fast.

See Main Post Here for Tg Bungah Market Location.

Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court Hokkien Mee (Soup)

Tanjung Bungah Market Hokkien Mee Soup

Highlighting some of the Good Stalls at Tanjung Bungah Wet Market Food Court.

There are some who claims this Hokkien Mee Soup is among the very best in Penang,  Recently transplanted / relocated to this food court,  this stall have years of history behind them.  Do note there are 2 hokkien mee stalls currently at this place,  one is at the center portion of the food court and the other is at the furthest section away from the market proper (the quietest part) , and next to a Juice Stall.

Well how good is this?  Definitely one of the better HKM stalls around penang, and i would have to say the best in Tanjung Bungah area,  its also a matter of taste and what you like to find in the dish.  Its my go to alternative when my favorite CKT stall at the market is close.  CKT wins anytime.

Location :  Stall is located in the 3rd Section of the Food court, which is the furthers away from the market ,  See Main Post Here for Tg Bungah Market Location.

A Bezza Journey - 1000km (1st) Inspection

 A Bezza Journey -  1st Inspection @ 1000Km

A question I came across in car forum is with regards to the 1000km “Service”, which to my understanding is basically nothing is being change, The Current Bezza 2018 version have a 1000km Free inspection

I would say it’s due to 1) the Current Technology which has lead to longer servicing period, 2) Perodua want to ensure that all is well with the vehicle, 3) to obtain feed back from the customers, 4) to familiarize customers with the service centres and method of operations.

So what the 1000km Inspection all about?  It’s basically an inspection of the Vehicle, and a chance to rectify items not up to Spec.  It "should" cost the customer RM 0  as there is no need to replace any consumables like engine oil.     I paid RM3 plus for a Battery Protector which I wanted to be fix.  They also attended to all the items I raise, going for 2 test drive.

So that the 1000K inspection. Short and Simple. Do note that there is a Term and Condition here for the “Free Inspection” which must be done within 2000km / 2 months.  Again there should be no charge, however in the forum I have hear of people saying they were charge as they were "recommended" certain accessories and consumables.  (Perodua Should look into this seriously, as this "hard sell" affect their image and "chase" customer away once the warranty period is over)

I wanted to Purchase an Extra Cargo / Luggage Net,  (One was provided with the car), however they say they don't have.  Curious.  Here we are, offering to increase their sales but.   Fact is Perodua should have their own car accessories outlet at least in Major Towns / State capitals,  they after all account for close to 40%- 50% of all new car sales in Malaysia.

While waiting at the Service Center (Perodua Branch), which is also a sales center, we had sofa seating waiting area, newspaper, magazines, n TV to amuse our self, and there is Free Coffee and Snacks as well.  Unfortunately no Wifi, (for that day/ or they dont provided this ), nor do I see plugs to recharge your devices.   Service Advisers was smiley and polite as always so no complaints here.

However, there are a few things that Perodua have to look into, on the service center conditions, little things that will affect their image, such as some of the Sofa was worn n torn, there were cobwebs hiding behind the blinds, but in general, the floor / walls was clean, well lit, & nicely set up.

Ipoh Style Hor Fun

Cook Ideal Restaurant at Chai Leng Park dish up Poached Chicken with Chicken Rice or Ipoh Style Hor Fun, very similar to May Fong @ Butterworth. See Here

The Restaurant

Menu

Pay Here

In fact the menu is exactly the same, only thing is this restaurant is new, much more hygienic, more pleasant, and professionally run, (Franchise able is what I would say) Opening hours are much longer.

Food taste is about the same.  However having your meals here are more comfortable.  Parking here is a bit more problematic though

7 Village Koey Teow Thng

The Original Koey Teow Thng

7 Village (Koey Teow thng)

7 Village is a chain of Noodle soup house which originated in Butterworth in 1956, from tricycle push cart hawker roots.  In 1970 they begin to operate from a Kopi Tiam as a stall, and in 1998 they set up their first restaurant, call Lin Restaurant in a place that has 7 Village.

Lai Men Dry
Looks Messy,  taste heavenly.

Now they are spreading all over Malaysia, and may be there is one in you town.  While they are famous for their Koey Teow Thng.  Other Noodles and food are also serve, such as Cold Pork Knuckle (German Influence?), Poached Chicken, Steam Egg (Japanese Influence), Deep Fried Water Tauhu topped with Mince Meat,  Loh Bak, and Kwan Jiang ( a cake of yam, white carrot, radish, peanut )

Deep Fried Taufu

What I like best is either their Dry Laimen, dry style, serve with a giant mince meat ball, and slices of Grilled Honey Pork and half boil egg, or their Pork Belly Laimen, serve with herbal soup, braised pork belly, and slightly undercook (Japanese Style) hard boil egg and their loh bak.

Cold Pork Knuckle
Cold Cut Type
Reminds me of the German Jelly Pork Knuckle

Photos are taken over 2 visits.  Location Map is Attached to their Head Quarters at Butterworth, off Jalan Raja Uda near the Petronas. Opens from 7.30am

"Beach Street" Braised Pork Leg @ Butterworth

One famous Chap Fan place in butterworth, which was formerly house in a wooden business premise at Beach Road, near the Ferry jetty, have since relocated to a Place near Butterworth Town (due to a fire), and is now operating from the front of Club Gold Champ formerly an old cinema (near a famous roti canai outlet) along Jalan Kampong Gajah (See Map), just after the Jalan Telaga Air Traffic Light as you head up north.

This Old School Chap Fan place which does not do much dishes but is well known for 2 items  Deep fried Ikan Cincaru Stufffed with Sambal and Braised Pork Leg in soya sauce, which every table will order.

Just the other day I drop by at the “New” place to try them out.  Yes they are still as good, in fact at this place its even more convenient as there is parking.

Lye Lye Food Court.

Roast Pork (Siew Bak) at Lye Lye Food Court

Lye Lye Food Court @ Jalan Terengganu

In Waze as Pusat Makanan Lye Lye

Lye Lye Food Court, located at Jalan Terengganu is a large food court, at the outskirt of George Town,

While it is open the whole day, its main business is during Dinner Time, what they have going for them in this very popular food court is, 1) has a decent size parking at the back, and there are sidelanes behind to cope with the overflow.  2) A decent selection of Good Food, actually everything here is good to excellent. 3) location, while its off the main road, its still in a very central location, with housing, schools all around.  4) due to its construction, its alfresco concept with fans.

This is one of my favourite eating places, for all the reasons above & its large enough to find “empty” tables fairly quickly, even though non of the stalls are my favourite.

So what will enjoy here? first up is a plate of Delicious Succulent Roast Pork, among the best in Penang, with Crispy Skin.

Next is usually the wan tan noodles,  I will order the broad noodles, and have them preparing it “very dry”, which they do well.

Another is the Mix Rice, what Malaysia without rice dish somewhere.

Pizza here is a Favorite of my Daughters, nothing fancy, just normal street food pizza,  I find it personally too sweet, but their business is good.

Oh Chen, Oyster Omelette but Thai Style, serve with some lime.

A Photo of Taken at Lye Lye.

Apologies forgotten to screen shot the location map, however you can find this place on Waze,  Pusat Makanan Lye Lye.

New World Park Food Court

Asam Laksa

New World Park Food Court

This big Airy Food Court, houses a good collection of Hawker / Street Food (Penang Chinese, but with a sprinkling of other type of other race) that use to line Swatow Lane, just adjacent to this place.  Some of those hawkers have move on, and have been replaced by others just about as good as, and increasing the verity of food available here.

Mee Goreng

This food court is convenient (with its own car park), more hygienic (then others), centrally located, comfortable which makes it a favourite for locals,  the other part of the complex houses a verity of restaurants and cafĂ©, one of them being the Famous Swatow Lane Ice Kacang / Rojak.

Poh Piah                      Chicken Rice              Otak Otak

This day when we drop by  (Cheng Beng Day for us) we had a verity of food, including Laksa, Mee Rebus, Po Piah, Chicken Rice (One of the New Stall), Otak Otak, and Mua Chi (New).

Price of food here is on the higher side of Hawker / Street Food in Penang.

Mua Chi

Historically New World Park, was an Entertainment City, which fell in to disuse, the hawker stall lining the street out side however thrive and boom, even with the park closure.   Currently New World park is know for its collection of Restaurants and Hawker food.
