HP14-BS033TX Lap Top Review  Part 3 Getting use to the Computer

Part 3 was supposed to be getting use to the Laptop ie the Tips and JumpStart, However its turning in to a download exercise, Do note while Windows will quietly download in the back ground and only disturb you to restart the computer, HP Support need you to manually enable the download. 

First up was getting some music. And testing out some movies.   

Music :   How to Make Adjustment for Sound

Played some movies and music, getting the volume was easy as each app have their adjustment and there the 3 hot keys at F6 (Mute), F7 Volume down, F8 Volume Up but sound was flat, started to search for a way to make it sound better. 

Finally, after a search there a App – Audio Control – Listening Experience – Various Auto Setting there or go custom, and Check the Auto Enhancement which have 3 choice Music, Voice and Movie.     

Overall Volume is localise, good enough for the person using the laptop but does not travel nor fill the room. 

Default App for Music seems to be Grove Music, which works for me.  

Next was the screen brightness …… 

Screen  :  Adjustment for Brightness

Screen is very bright and reflective almost as good as a mirror, wish there is a way for reading mode, adjusted the brightness by right clicking the battery indicator, there a simple brightness control there, with increment of 25%, for immediate changes or left click on the battery, Adjust Screen Brightness, will send you to the Power settings where you can change the plan settings or use the hot key F2 & F3. 

The Screen will definitely smudge if you touch it as I did many times, old habits die hard.  It best to sit in with a dark background at the back, with dark clothing, but its good as no one can creep up to you from the back. 

Laptop Appearance:  As Stated earlier the matt black look excellent, however there the tendency to pick up body/finger grease and assorted scruff marks here and there. 

Key Board:  Definitely an improvement over my old hybrid, much larger more comfortable with a wrist rest, however takes time to get used to it, I keep touching the home key which send the cursor to the beginning of the sentence.   

Microsoft Office Pro Retail:  I finally give up on the Open Office, There is nothing wrong with it, but I think I do not know how to operate the spell checker, after checking the net etc, it auto correct at times, but not all the time……  in terms of documents and old files, it compatible.    

Getting the MS Office was quite a strait forward, I opt to do a download, which took around 2 hours plus with a strong wifi connection, via a 8mb landline, and installing it (64bit version) took another 30min, Open Words, key in the Key and that was it.  Superb …….    

However a “problem” show up later …..   In Excel I always use F2 key to correct or to add what written in the cells.  This computer use F2 for Brightness.  Work around is using the mouse to click on the cell 

More Downloads

At this time thing got a bit interesting lots of Windows 10 downloads has happened, and the computer started to request to shutdown to update, this took a bit of time with numerous shutdown. 

So after all those, I thought I can finally have some time to explore the Laptop properly, Fat chance, I launch Tips and started going through things then, I notice HP support Assistant also started to request my attention, and it also want to down load and install apps, so far HP JumpStart, HP Obit and HP diagnostic was downloaded and installed with lots more to go. 

So tonight with be more downloading and installing before I can get back to Tips, HP JumpStart to learn more about the computer. 

Updates on Programs

Some of the apps have change name or have disappeared. I notice Contact Support, 3D is gone. However new programs pop up  on their own,  I don’t mind replacement programs but not new programs.

Either way let me get all the HP download done so I can sit down and start looking in to the Tips and HP JumpStart.
