Po Piah, A Food Truck @ Chai Leng Park, (Evenings / Night)

UPdate :  this food truck has disappeared, cannot find it any more  sad

Poh Piah,  Food Truck, Chai Leng Park

Po Piah is a Penang Specialty,  basically it can be describe at unfried spring roll, stuff with lettuce, cooked turnips, beansprout, chopped beancurd and any other ingredients, or in a fancy language,  a Penang Style Vegetable Wrap.    In theory is a “health” version which you can indulge in.

Commonly found at many food outlet at the Island,  Po Piah is difficult to find across the channel, which lead to discovering this Food Truck (Tue, Wed, Sat & Sundays) park in front of one of my favorite Makan place a big surprise

They also sell at Heng Choon Thean, Sri Bandar Market, in the Morning, Which is a advantage of a Food Truck, - mobility.

Oh Yes, The food, more then acceptable, good size portion, friendly chap, good service,  (Other food is also available, such as chee cheong fun, and assorted fritters.

Do excuse the photo, not very appetizing visually, but taste good, as its only avaliable Ta Pau (Take away).  -  Location Map.

Tosai @ Jawi, Seberang Prai Selatan

Beyond Butterworth.

If you are in the area, one of the best Tosai (breakfast) can be had, is at this humble kopi tiam (Restaurant 218), next to Econsave, a local Hyper Market located on the federal road 1,  (Butterworth – Ipoh) near the administrative capital of Seberang Jaya Selatan.

It’s easy to find,  just behind the green building, turn in and its right behind,  The coffee shop which open to lunch, also house a (Penang) Hokkian Mee (Soup), a Porriage Stall, and a Chicken Rice all which open from breakfast.  For Lunch there will be a Indian Rice stall as well.

Back to the Tosai Stall, (also have Indian Economy Beehoon, and Nasi Lemak), which is accompanied by the most wonderful Fish curry sauce (No fish serve).  To day I Had some Half Boil eggs as well.  Oh yes do go early,  if late, may be sold out.

Location in the Map attached.  Enjoy.

Perodua Bezza 1.3lt - A Test Drive

The Beginning of a Bezza Journey.

update :  For more Bezza post, please click here
I have purchase the Bezza 1.3lt - Premium X model

Test Drive Vehicle was Provided by Perodua Dealer  for a short 15 min Test Drive.

I finally got a chance to Drive a Perodua Bezza 1,3lt, Malaysia top selling sedan, produce by Perodua.  the Variant i test drove is the Advance Version with all the bells and whistles, on some urban roads, with a small hill climb thrown in.  In the car was 3 Adults (1 overweight) & 1 child.

While it was a very short drive, due to time constrain, I came away impress (when compared with the previous sedans i drove), while the vehicle is already 2 years old, the ride was fun, punchy and solid, steering precise, with plenty of power available (speed up to 60kmph).  Didn't get a chance for Highway speed yet.

I do feel that the Advance version is just a bit too techy, to many things to fiddle about with, for a normal driver to appreciate, though for a Motohead, it would be fun, so we are eyeing a Premium X version, for a basic work commuting (long distance highway), or heading to Market / School .

My Wife opinion (Most important) is that seating at the back, it better then ,my previous Proton Wira 1.3, spacious, comfortable......   This car definitely have better power, pickup, and possible better fuel economy which could be due to its weight factor.

Our present Alza, will be use for high capacity passenger & or load carrying capacity and for long distance purpose.  We have decided to retire our Viva 1.0 EZ (Yes  we are a "all" Perodua family.) thanks to a special set of circumstances,  A Tax Holiday from GST b4 the SST is re implemented, fair resale value and a slight drop in Bank Loan Rate.

More to come once we take possession of the Vehicle

Oh Yes, if you need a Sales Advisor,  Just PM me with your details,  this SA, provides Nation wide service for all Perodua Cars,  just send documents via Whatapp.  ;)  no need to meet unless to test drive and to pick up the car.

Disclaimer :

I have not been paid nor compensated nor provided with any materials for such posts, other then the initial test drive.  Opinions & Results are solely my own & derive from my experience, my methods with this vehicle, any may / will  not be similar with yours or others opinions.

Wai Sei Kai, Chai Leng Park, Prai (Butterworth)

Gluttons Street, Chai Leng Park Version, Prai

Imagine a long street, more than 100 meters of food stalls, all covered & set up in small groupings, with some of the best food around.  Facing this row of food stall are small terrace type of shop lots, some of which are open at night.

Gluttons Street, Chai Leng Park, comes alive in the Evening & at Night bustling busy till about 10pm.  Its almost never close, as different stalls will close on different days, so there are always stalls open, other than for special Occasions.

Nasi Lemak Bungkus (Chinese Version) & Mee Jawa

This evening we sat down in one of the Middle Sections and enjoyed the food from all the stalls around.  We had Jawa Mee, Nasi Lemak Bungkus, Deep Fried Tauhu, Fried Chicken, See kor Thng, a Dessert Drink combo, and even Burger King. (More on this below)

There are many more verities of food here, from a section of lok lok stalls, Penang Favourites of Char Koey Teow, Hokkian Mee,  even the KL version of Hokkian Mee Can be found,  Tim Sum, Curry Fish Head, Clay Pot Rice, Economy Rice Dishers, and a Small section of Indian Food can also be found.  If you drop by at the right time,  you can find durian.

Ocean Restaurant @ Raja Uda Butterworth

Egg Plant

Ocean Restaurant @ Raja Uda Butterworth

I have notice Ocean Restaurant for some time, due to its prominent location, however did not patronise as 1) it gave the impression of a high-end up market there for pricey establishment, 2) that its always seems to be full 3) No Social Media Buzz on the place.

                           Steam Fish Teow Chew                    Beansprouts

So one find day, as our nearby first choice restaurant was close, and this restaurant still have a empty table, we decided (at last) to give this place a try. (at this stage, there were some photos on FB and what a family has ordered, with a comment of decent & affordable food)

                            Steam Egg                                        Lemon Chicken

Ocean Restaurant is located at the south end (newer end) of Raja Uda,  (see map for Exact location) and occupy a corner single shop lot,  its decoration / theme certainly make it pop out, especially with the out door (big) photos of the dishes they serve.   Parking is certainly very convenient as there is a big open space right beside the restaurant, beside a number of Official car park lots.

                            Beancurd                                          Pork

We order a number of dish as per the acquaintance from facebook recommended.  Stir Fried Egg Plant, Steam Seabass Teochew style, Taugeh with Tau Meu, Steam Egg, Lemon Chicken, Beancurd, Pork  I think ……

Dish that stood out for me was the Stir Fried Egg Plant, Steam Egg and the Beancurd.  All this plus a stout came up to RM280 for about 12 of us,  6 adults, 6 children.

Double Good Restaurant, Tanjung Bungah

Double Good Restaurant, Tanjung Bungah

We were back at Tanjung Bungah for some chu char at a Aircondition Restaurant (Chain I believe) by the name of Double Good.

Located near Maybank Tanjung Bungah, near the junction of Jalan Lembah Permai and Jalan Tanjung Bungah, its located at a shoplot next to Pizza Hut.  Parking is certainly convenient in the evening despite the many food outlets, and the nearby apartment blocks.

We had the Set B, which consists of a Steam Teowchew Style Seabass, Special Tauhu, Sharkfin in Omelette, Beijing Style Pork Ribs, Kailan Prepared two ways, and the Indonesian prawns in claypot.

Well, what stood out for me was the Indonesian Prawns in claypot, which is basically a fancy name of saying Dry Curry Prawns,  this dish was flavourful and have a nice mild punch. I ended up scraping out the claypot for the sauce.

Pricy wise, this restaurant is definitely in the Air-condition Price Category

Delicious Lamb Soup (Indian Style) in Butterworth

Delicious Lamb Soup Indian Style in Butterworth.

One of the Best lamb soup, I ever had, is in this Food Court at Chai Leng Park.  One can have this with Roti Banggali or with Rice, or even a Nasi Lemak sold by the same stall.

Located at Great Wellesley Food court,  this Lamb soup Stall is open at night.  Definitely one of the better one around.  This Curry style soup is thick and full of spices and is a treat especially on a cold rainy evening.

Weng Seng Roast Duck, The Best in Butterworth .......

Weng Seng Roast Duck,  Best in Butterworth.

Weng Seng Restaurant, is another old school restaurant in Butterworth.  Its speciality Roast Duck.

Weng Seng is located just next to Sweet Paradise Tim Sum in the Vicinity of the Seri Bandar Market, Off Jalan Heng Choon Thean.  (Near Butterworrth Police Station.    As stated their Speciality is Roast Duck, and they are definitely the best I had in Butterworth.   Also available are the usual Roast Pork, sausages, and other roast meats.

All this are only available during Lunch,  At night Weng Seng operate as a Chinese Restaurant serving Cantonese Dishes.

We usually Ta Pau Half a Roast Duck for Dinner, as seen in this picture.  I only wish they serve roast duck at night, so we can patronise this restaurant at night.

A Family Favorite.

Nasi Lemak Bungkus @ Butterworth Old Town.

Nasi Lemak Bungkus, OUB Bank / TM Point Jalan Telekom, Butterworth

Nasi Lemak Bungkus is a staple food of all Malaysian, for all meals, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and all other meals in between, and can be found everywhere, cooked and sold by all races that makes up Malaysia, though there will be variations.

Basically, a simple meal of rice cook in coconut milk, and other seasonings, with accompaniments of sambal, ikan belis, peanuts though there others things may be added.  All this is usually wrapped, in Banana Leaf, In Plastic, in Wax Paper, in Newspaper.   And may cost from RM1 upwards all depending of the ingredients.

There are some stalls that you can choose what accompaniments, however for this stall, at the road side all come prewrapped, there are a few choices, chicken, Ikan belis, and so on, all waiting for you choice,  nice, worth a visit.

Location :  TM Point / OUB Bank, Jalan Telekom Road Side.
